Iran has strongly denied recent claims made by a U.S. official alleging that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) plotted to assassinate Israel’s ambassador to Mexico, Einat Kranz Neiger. The unnamed American official, speaking to Reuters, asserted that the alleged plot was active through the first half of 2025 but had been “contained” and posed no current threat. However, the official declined to provide any details about how the operation was foiled or offer further evidence to support the claim.In response, the Iranian Embassy in Mexico dismissed the accusation as “entirely baseless,” emphasizing Iran’s respect for Mexican sovereignty and laws. “We will never tarnish the good reputation of our Mexican friends. Betraying Mexico’s interests is equal to betraying our own,” the embassy stated, according to Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency.
Mexico’s government also confirmed it had “no information regarding an alleged attack against the Israeli ambassador,” further casting doubt on the credibility of the U.S. claim.
Iranian officials have repeatedly rejected similar accusations from the United States and its allies, describing them as politically motivated efforts to demonize Iran and disrupt its diplomatic relations. The latest allegation appears to follow a familiar pattern of unsubstantiated claims aimed at fueling tension and isolating Iran on the international stage.
